Rob Roy

By Dylan Fleming Print Preview

Ugh, Rob Roy. That guy sucks. All right, I'm talking about the drink, not a person. But you get my point.

  • 1 1/2 shot Scotch
  • 1/2 shot Vermouth
  • Dash Bitters
  • 2 Maraschino cherries

It could be because I don't do scotch, but GAWD this drink is awful. The first taste is a scotch filled punch in the face, and it doesn't get any better from there. A short while afterward, your mouth tastes as though you've licked an ashtray. I don't eat cherries, so I didn't eat the maraschino cherries skewered at the bottom of the glass, but after the faces my cohorts made, I was convinced that I wanted to steer clear of them.

This drink sucks. End of story.

  • I agree with Dylan. This drink should be used to ruin paintings. It's definitely a one shot wonder (one drink and you're done.) Unfortunately, I had several more after it and I was definitely feeling it today. There was a good deal of other people who tried it last night and I think the consensus was the same.

  • Nay, Nay, I say! The Rob Roy is one of my FAVORITE drinks! The recipe above is not quite correct.
    2 parts scotch
    1 part SWEET vermouth
    3 dashes bitters
1 marachino cherry, with a splash of the cherry juice.

However, it is a scotch drinkers drink... if scotch is a 'punch in the face' to you, then you aren't going to be a fan of the rob roy.
